With just 14 weeks to go until our trip we have started a spanish class. It is an 8 week course at the Gordon Tafe in Geelong. It has been 20 years since either of us have been in a classroom so it could prove to be interesting.
The class runs for two hours each week, the teacher is a lovely Chilean lady, her name is Mirtha, we both think she is quite adorable.
At the start of the class Mirtha gave all the students a spanish version of their name. I am Elizabet (Megan has no Spanish alternative, so I used my middle name) and Pete is Pedro!
There are 16 people in the class although one person did not show up. There is a mix of characters all learning Spanish for a different reason. Of course we already have a couple of people who are being a little big headed about their knowledge of the language, seriously, take level 2 people rather than annoying the people in the level 1 class.
In the first class we commenced learning the vowels, consonants and their sounds, we also started learning the alphabet.
I think we will enjoy the class, although we both felt a bit nervous when having to say words out loud in front of everyone!
After the class Pete and I went out for dinner at the Carlton. We had a really nice meal, it was great not having to cook and we will try to go out to a different restaurant each week after the class.
I look forward to next weeks class and hope that by the end of the course we will have a bit of a grasp of the language and it will make our trip a little more adventurous!
